Our largest first close ever: €73M for Ananda Fund V

Table of contents

We just have secured €73 million in the first close of our fifth Core Impact Fund, well above our €50 million target. The largest first close in Ananda's 16-year history!

At a time when many investors are retreating from impact, we are doing the opposite: doubling down on European founders building companies indispensable for the future of people and planet, such as OroraTech (leader in global wildfire intelligence), IESO (pioneer of AI-driven mental health technology) and NatureMetrics (global market leader in Biodiversity data).

Co-Founder Johannes Weber said: “We went out with the thesis that we should reflect the values of our founders – anti-consensus, anti-group think. We have seen venture capital follow the geopolitical zeitgeist into isolationism, division, and defence – simply by staying true to our core values, we become differentiated in the market. We become outliers. This is Impact Investing 3.0 – the era when impact ceases to be a word of convenience, and starts to be a word of conviction.”

We are ready to invest in systems, not sectors

We believe that venture needs to move beyond siloes; beyond point solutions. Investing since 2009, we have seen how the biggest problem sets of our time, human, social, and environmental, are not best solved in isolation from one another, but rather solved as one system. This is where both outsized impact and outsized returns are created. We believe the next wave of generational European companies will be as interdisciplinary as the problems themselves. We have invested in industry – powered by biology (Differential Bio), healthcare – monitored in nature (Resistomap), and entrepreneurship – democratised through education (OneDay). This is just the beginning for us.

Co-Founder Florian Erber said, “To change systems, you need a team that thinks in systems. We have built Ananda around biologists, engineers, chemists and entrepreneurs – people who think in molecules, ecosystems and lines of code. We are full of builders, and that is how you go truly deep. That is why we can tell founders to skip the problem slide.”

We are always looking for the next system disruptors, founders who challenge first principles and are ready to build through complexity. If that resonates with you, reach out. Now is the time to be part of that journey.
