AI-driven DNA diagnosis, starting with maternal health.

Aitiologic uses multimodal sequencing and AI to determine which tissues the cell-free DNA in a blood sample comes from. It applies this first to the routine pregnancy blood test, which is designed to flag women at risk of complications like preeclampsia months before symptoms appear. It uses a sample that is already drawn, so there is no new burden for the patient.

Cell-free DNA fragments shed from the placenta, kidney, liver, lung, heart, and other tissues circulate in blood, carrying molecular signatures that reveal their tissue of origin.

Why it matters

For over a decade, the routine prenatal blood test has been read only for the baby’s chromosomes, while the mother’s own risk signals sit untouched in the same tube. Women spend 25% more of their lives in poor health than men, yet only about 1% of healthcare research goes to female-specific conditions beyond oncology. Aitiologic traces DNA in the blood back to the tissue it came from. That turns a routine blood draw into an early warning system for preeclampsia, which is estimated to kill ~76,000 mothers and ~500,000 babies a year.

Preeclampsia is only the start. Gestational diabetes is already being investigated. Beyond pregnancy, the platform could extend to cancer monitoring, transplant rejection and drug safety, with each application needing its own clinical study.
